Scholarships

In Lesotho children from the age of six attend a primary school. This is free education, provided by the government, until the age of 12. After primary school they can attend secondary school, that is, if the parents can pay for it. Happily there are some organisations that give help by offering scholarships.

Pre schools are for children aged between three to six years old. Here in the pre schools the children receive great preparation for primary school so they can benefit as much as possible.

The pre schools are not free, a monthly ZAR50 (about € 4,50) is asked for every child. This is needed for the salary of the teacher. It is found important to ask for a school fee so parents send their children regularly and see value in the school activities. But many parents cannot afford that sum, especially when there is more than one child from the same family. A scholarship is made possible. Parents can earn a scholarschip by doinig some work for the pre school. It takes just € 50,- to have one child go to school for a whole year.

What is done with the money: 30 toddlers can attend pre-school
